A fire erupted in the storeroom of a camp at the Maha Kumbh Mela area on Saturday evening, destroying seven tents and damaging items such as blankets and food grains, according to officials. However, no injuries were reported.
Chief Fire Officer (Kumbh), Pramod Sharma, stated that the fire started in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh area and quickly engulfed seven tents. Firefighting motorcycles arrived within two minutes, followed by four fire trucks.
DIG of Maha Kumbh, Vaibhav Krishna, confirmed the fire began at the Luv Kush Seva Mandal camp around 6:15 pm. Police and fire services responded promptly, controlling the blaze within about five minutes.
“The camp also housed Kalpavasis (pilgrims who stay for an extended period during the Kumbh). Items such as blankets and foodgrains stored in the room were damaged in the fire,” the DIG said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, according to the Chief Fire Officer.
