Film director V K Prakash was granted bail on Thursday after being interrogated for two days by the police in a sexual harassment case. The bail followed a Kerala High Court order, which had granted him anticipatory bail, reported PTI.

The police at Pallithottam station confirmed that Prakash was questioned for three consecutive days, after which he was released on station bail in line with the court’s directions.

The case stems from allegations made by a woman scriptwriter, who accused Prakash of sexually harassing her in April 2022 when she met him to discuss a potential film script. The allegations surfaced after the release of the Justice K Hema Committee report, which addressed challenges faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.

Prakash has denied the accusations, claiming that the woman fabricated the charges after he rejected her script. He further accused the woman of attempting to blackmail his associates and asserted that she had made inappropriate advances towards him, including sending suggestive messages.

The Kerala High Court, while granting Prakash anticipatory bail, noted that custodial interrogation was unnecessary, as the director had expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation. However, the court mandated that Prakash undergo three days of interrogation, with the possibility of a medical examination if deemed necessary by investigators.
