Rajiv Luthra, veteran corporate lawyer and founder of law firm Luthra & Luthra, died Wednesday, the Indian Express reports. Luthra, 67, died due to a brief illness. The veteran lawyer is survived by his wife Gayatri and two daughters. The cremation will take place at Delhi’s Lodhi Road Crematorium, the IE report added.
He started his career as a chartered accountant, pursued Law and was an alumnus of University of Delhi. In the year 1989, he established his own firm Luthra & Luthra Law offices at the age of 31. After setting up his firm, he opted for courses at the Harvard Law School for the period of seven years. He studied several spheres of law and it helped him in developing a niche in practicing acquisitions, mergers, finance with specialization in public private partnership and in project finance.
Luthra & Luthra Law Offices has over 350 lawyers and has branches in Mumbai and Bangalore. An avid golfer, the veteran lawyer was considered to be very kind and considerate in nature and helped in nurturing the careers of many corporate lawyers. He also set up a travel company before venturing out his own law firm, IE reported.
The co-founder of the law firm, Mohit Saraf has left the company with 20 partners and started another firm, Saraf and Partners in the year 2021. The firm’s split happened in the Delhi High Court. The litigation arm of Luthra & Luthra firm, also broke up and joined DSK Legal in July last year. Lawyers of the firm Bobby Chandhoke and Sushir Sharma exited with 60 lawyers on their side.
