The Indian National Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which failed to form the governing majority five years ago, has sweeped Ernakulam across all wards in 2025.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has reacted to the UDF’s sweeping win in the state, adding that the mandate gave them “renewed strength and confidence” for the Assembly elections.

Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is inching closer to sweeping Kochi by a huge margin. LDF has suffered a huge setback. In 2020, it managed to form the governing majority by gaining the support of independent councillors.

The Congress-led UDF is moving closer to a decisive victory in the 2025 polls, having secured wins in 8,888 wards so far. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is following closely behind, winning 7,196 wards at this point. The NDA is placed third, with 1,652 wards to its credit, while other parties and independent candidates together have won 1,410 wards.

The counting of votes in Kerala has reached the final lap, and the results of local bodies will be announced shortly.

UDF has won the Ernakulam municipality with 227 of 447 wards. LDF followed with 108, others with 71 and NDA with 41.

“This trend will continue in the Assembly elections as well. It is an indication that the people are ready to bring down the LDF government,” AICC leader KC Venugopal said, adding that UDF had registered victories even in CPI(M) and LDF strongholds.

“I congratulate all UDF workers for their hard work. Congress workers and leaders worked unitedly,” he said.

As UDF is eyeing a comfortable win across wards in the state, UDF supporters in Kochi raise “UDF Zindabad” slogans.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Sunny Joseph stated that the UDF is moving toward a historic win, and the numbers support his claims. He added that people have firmly rejected the LDF’s misleading claims.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has moved ahead across panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations, securing victories in 4,579 wards so far. The Pinarayi Vijayan–led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won 3,609 wards, while the NDA has recorded notable gains, emerging victorious in 931 wards.

So far, the results have been announced for 227 corporation wards, 2924 municipality wards, 4926 grama panchayat wards, and 178 block panchayat wards.

The UDF put up a dominant performance in the election, dealing a major setback to the LDF as its mayoral candidate suffered defeat.

UDF has won 354 wards so far, LDF 141, NDA 90, and others have won 48.

UDF has won in 1,578 wards in 23,611 wards. LDF is close behind and has won 1,168 wards.

Out of 12,000 local bodies, the LDF is leading in 121, followed by the UDF with 96, the NDA with 7, and others with 7.

In Ernakulam (Kochi), UDF has won 30 wards in 447 municipalities, 5 wards in the gram panchayat.

“… We are very confident that the BJP will secure a good margin in the central Kerala belt, and we will also achieve a strong victory this time in South Kerala,” BJP leader Shaun George said.

He added that people will shift their support to the BJP this time.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is holding its ground against the United Democratic Front (UDF) in early trends in the 3,240 municipalities.

The State Election Commission is overseeing the counting of votes for the election, which took place in two phases across 244 centres in 14 districts.

The counting of votes begins.

This year’s Kerala local body elections saw polling in 17,337 wards of 941 gram panchayats, 2,267 wards under 152 block panchayats, and 346 wards across 14 district panchayats. Urban local bodies included 3,240 wards in 87 municipalities and 421 wards in six corporations.

M Anil Kumar of the CPI(M) became the Mayor of the Kochi Corporation in 2020 following the local body election.

The first phase of the Kerala local body elections saw 36,620 candidates in the fray for 11,167 wards across 595 local bodies in districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam.

Ernakulam (Kochi) went to the polls in the first phase of the local body election in Kerala. Other districts that went to the polls are Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam.
