The Delhi Police has called journalist Abhisar Sharma to appear for further questioning on Thursday regarding an ongoing investigation related to alleged violations of the anti-terror law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), with accusations that the NewsClick portal received funds for spreading pro-China content, according to officials.
Sources reveal that the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has summoned Abhisar Sharma for a follow-up inquiry in connection with the preceding case.
Previously, Sharma was interrogated at the Special Cell’s office earlier this week. Prabir Purkayastha, founder and editor-in-chief of NewsClick, along with the head of the human resources department, Amit Chakravarty, were taken into custody on Tuesday following extensive questioning of multiple journalists in connection with the case.
A local court later sent both individuals to police custody for a period of seven days. On Tuesday, law enforcement authorities conducted raids at 88 locations in Delhi and seven locations in other states.
A total of 37 male individuals were interrogated at the Special Cell’s office, while nine female individuals were questioned at their respective residences.
