Delhi Peera Garhi Building Collapse Coverage: Hours after a massive a fire engulfed a battery manufacturing factory in Delhi’s Peeragarhi area, one firefighters, wh was injured during rescue operations, has succumbed due to injuries. He was among 14 people, including 13 firefighters, who were injured in a in the fire that broke out in the Peeragarhi area of the national capital. A portion of the burning factory building collapsed trapping the firefighters, reports said. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he is closely monitoring the situation.

According to reports, locals heard a blast inside the burning factory following which a part of the building crashed trapping firefighters who were involved in the rescue work. The exact number of people present at the spot were not known immediately. At least 35 fire tenders are at the spot as relief and rescue work are still underway. Injured have been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and Balaji Action Hospital.

At least 35 people were killed after a massive fire broke out in a factory in Anaj Mandi area on Rani Jhansi Road in Delhi on December 8, 2019.

    Rescue operations underway since last 9 hours

    Plumes of smoke billowed out from the building that houses a battery manufacturing plant as the fire brigade personnel battled to contain the blaze. An eyewitness said several explosions were heard as the blaze gutted down the building. Around nine hours have elapsed since the rescue operations began early in the morning at around 4.30 am.

    Peeragarhi fire: Manoj Tiwari postpones programme

    Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has postponed a programme 'Meri Dilli Mera Sujhaav'. "Due to fire at peeragarhi, launch program of Meri Dilli Mera Sujhaav stands postponed," Tiwari said in a tweet. The building in Udyog Nagar in Peeragarhi area collapsed this morning following an explosion when firefighters were dousing the blaze. Rescue and relief operations are underway.

    Efforts underway to rescue all from crumbling building structure

    One fire service personnel still trapped inside the collapsed building. Sources say that the building is collapsing gradually and rescue operations are being undertaken aggressively to evacuate everyone safely. Deputy Chief of Fire Service, Dharmpal Bhardwaj says, "10-12 of our personnel got injured due to the blast. 4 people, including 3 fire brigade personnel were trapped, all but one of our personnel have been rescued. Cause of fire not yet ascertained."

    As rescue and relief operations get underway at the site of building collapse in Delhi's Peeragarhi area and kickstarted massive fire, Additional DCP (Outer) Rajendra Sagar said, "14 people have been injured in the incident, including 13 fire brigade personnel. The back portion of the building has collapsed, fire though is in control now, rescue operations continuing."

    Delhi building collapse: One person still trapped under debris

    According to a police official, at least one person is still holed-up inside the collapsed part of the building. The agencies have rescued 14 men, including one civilian. Officials say a concrete block on the backward side of the building collapsed and led to the outbreak of fire. The building is built on a plot of 3,000 yards and over 75 per cent of the building has collapsed.
