Gokulpuri Metro Station Collapse: A person was killed after a portion of the boundary wall of the Gokulpuri metro station in Delhi collapsed on Thursday morning. At least three other people sustained minor injuries while several two-wheelers were damaged.

The Gokulpuri metro station falls on the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro. The incident took place at around 11 am. A fire unit is present at the spot on standby as a slab is still hanging from the broken structure.

“The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to pay Rs 1 lakh for minor injury, Rs 5 lakh for grievous injury and an amount of Rs 25 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased,” Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive, Director, DMRC, told PTI.

Earlier, DCP (northeast) Joy Tirkey told ANI, “At least 3 to 4 people were injured. One person was trapped under the debris and was grievously injured, while others sustained minor injuries.”

DCP Tirkey added that police personnel managed to pull out the person who was trapped under the debris. “He was riding on his scooty when the incident occurred. He was rushed to GTB Hospital.”

The person later succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.

The debris is being removed with the help of JCBs and cranes, and Delhi Metro staff and police are present at the spot, Indian Express reported.

A probe is underway into the matter, the DCP said, and a case under relevant will be filed.
