The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has put up a three-dimensional (3D) painting speed breaker on the Rajaji Marg.
The virtual speed breaker looks like a real one from a distance to let the drivers slow down in time.
The NDMC has taken this initiative to make the traffic movement smoother in the area under its jurisdiction.
If successfull, the exercise may be replicated in other areas under NDMC. Inputs of traffic will also be taken during the trial of the virtual speed breaker.
The 3D speed breaker has been put up by a team of NDMC and Delhi Street Art (DSA).
Similar exercises have been undertaken in Gujarat and other parts of the country.
Earlier in April, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had said the government was considering putting up three-dimensional (3D) paintings on major highways and busy roads to create virtual speed breakers.
“We are trying out 3D paintings used as virtual speed breakers to avoid unnecessary requirements of speed breakers,” Gadkari said in a tweet.
India witnesses as high as 5 lakh road accidents in a year, in which 1.5 lakh people die and another 3 lakh are maimed.
