Former Delhi Chief Minister and National convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday that his party would extend free electricity and water benefits to tenants if re-elected in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal acknowledged concerns raised by tenants across the city. “Wherever I go, I meet people living on rent who benefit from good schools and hospitals but are deprived of the free electricity and water schemes,” he said.
Kejriwal assured that, if his party wins, tenants — many of whom belong to the Purvanchal region — will also be able to access the free utilities.
This announcement comes as AAP intensifies its campaign for the Delhi elections, scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
The party is seeking a third consecutive term, focusing its campaign on welfare programs, including the provision of free utilities and improvements to public services.
