The Delhi Assembly elections are witnessing an intense battle in Okhla, a constituency known for its political significance and past anti-NRC protests. According to the Election Commission of India, AAP’s senior leader and two-time MLA Amanatullah Khan is currently leading with 9,518 votes and Shifa Ur Rehman Khan, AIMIM candidate is trailing by 9,518 votes. Meanwhile BJP’s Manish Chaudhary who was leading in early trends is now trailing by 13,398 votes, this is the data as of 11:30 AM.
As of 10:30 AM, Manish Chaudhary took the lead with 14,830 votes, pushing Amanatullah Khan into the trailing position. This marks a significant challenge for the AAP leader, who previously won the 2020 elections by a landslide, securing 130,367 votes against BJP’s Brahm Singh (58,540 votes) and Congress’s Parvez Hashmi (5,123 votes). In 2015, Khan had also emerged victorious with 104,271 votes, defeating BJP and Congress candidates by substantial margins.
The contest in Okhla has been heated, with Amanatullah Khan facing tough competition from Manish Chaudhary (BJP), Ariba Khan (Congress), and Shifa Ur Rehman Khan (AIMIM). The AIMIM candidate received support from Asaduddin Owaisi, who campaigned in Muslim-majority areas of the constituency. Meanwhile, Amanatullah Khan faced controversy ahead of polling as he was booked for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
Okhla, one of Delhi’s oldest inhabited regions, went to polls on February 5 along with the rest of the capital, recording a voter turnout of 54.96%. With strong candidates from AAP, BJP, Congress, and AIMIM, the constituency remains a key battleground in Delhi’s political landscape. The final outcome will determine whether AAP retains its stronghold or if BJP manages to make a breakthrough in the region.
