Delhi Exit Poll Results 2025 Highlights: Pollsters predict Capital ‘Kamaal’ for BJP over AAP and a Congress rout

The 2025 Delhi election is shaping up to be a direct contest between former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP. Congress, which drew a blank in the 2015 and 2020 state elections as well as the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is not expected to play a major role.

-Axis My India: Gave AAP 53 seats, BJP 17, Congress 0, and Others 0.

Today’s Chanakya: Indicated 48 seats for AAP, 22 for BJP, none for Congress, and none for Others.

-ABP–Nielsen: Suggested AAP would secure 43 seats, BJP 26, Congress 1, and Others 0.

Overall, the average across these polls pointed to AAP at around 45 seats, BJP at 24, Congress at 1, and no seats for Others.

The following were the predictions by news channels and polling agencies in the 2015 polls:

-News Nation: Estimated AAP at 41–45 seats, BJP at 23–27 seats, Congress at 1–3 seats, and Others at 0–1 seat.

-India Today–Cicero: Projected AAP winning 38–46 seats, BJP securing 19–27 seats, Congress getting 3–5 seats, and Others at 0–2 seats.

-India TV–CVoter: Predicted AAP in the range of 35–43 seats, BJP at 25–33 seats, Congress at 0–2 seats, and no seats for Others.

Four major polling agencies in 2013 predicted varying outcomes for the BJP, AAP, Congress, and Others. Headlines Today-ORG forecast the BJP winning 41 seats, AAP 6, Congress 20, and Others 3. ABP-Neilson projected 37 seats for the BJP, 15 for AAP, 16 for Congress, and 2 for Others.

CVoter’s exit poll prediction gave the BJP 31, AAP 15, Congress 20, and Others 4, while Today’s Chanakya predicted 29 for the BJP, 31 for AAP, 10 for Congress, and none for Others.

In 2013, an average of four exit polls predicted a strong lead for the BJP, forecasting 35 seats, just one short of the 36 needed for a majority. The polls also predicted that both the AAP and Congress would secure 17 seats each. However, the final results were different. The BJP won 32 seats, AAP secured 28, and Congress only managed eight seats.

Exit polls can give us an idea of how people voted, but they are not always completely accurate. These polls ask a small group of voters about their choices after they vote, and the results are used to guess the final outcome. Exit polls will be released today, February 5, from 6 30 PM onwards. Voting across the 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi is going on and will end at 6 PM. The AAP, BJP and Congress are in a tight contest this time.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had earlier criticised the practice of showing early trends on counting day by news channels, calling it “nonsense.” He had also pointed out that exit polls create unnecessary hype and distractions by raising false expectations.

Kumar said that while exit polls are not regulated, the media, especially TV channels, need to reflect on their responsibility. He questioned the sample size, location, and transparency of the surveys and urged the media to consider the consequences of inaccurate predictions.

Six exit polls had predicted an outright majority for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but none could accurately gauge the scale of its victory. The average of these polls placed AAP at 45 seats, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at 24 and Congress trailing with just one seat. That year, AAP secured a dominant 67 seats, leaving the BJP with only three. Congress didn’t open its account.

Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP had come to power with a massive mandate in the Delhi Assembly election bagging 62 seats in the 70-member House. The BJP had won eight seats. The Congress failed to open its account in the 2020 Delhi polls.

-The Times Now-IPSOS survey predicted 44 seats for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) projected to win 26 seats.

-The ABP News-C Voter survey estimated AAP could win between 49 and 63 seats, while BJP might secure 5 to 19 seats.

-The Republic TV-Jan Ki Baat survey forecasted AAP winning 48 to 61 seats, and BJP taking 9 to 21 constituencies.

-The TV9 Bharatvarsh-Cicero poll predicted 54 seats for AAP and 15 for BJP.

-The India Today-Axis exit poll projected AAP sweeping the elections with 59 to 68 seats, while BJP was expected to win 2 to 11 seats.

Various exit polls conducted on Saturday indicated that the Aam Aadmi Party is likely to secure a comfortable majority in the Delhi Assembly elections. The AAP had come to power in 2020 Delhi polls, beating the BJP and the Congress.

News channel Times Now will be conducting a Poll of Polls. The broadcast begins from 5 PM. However, exit polls prediction can’t be broadcasted before 6 30 PM, as per ECI’s mandate.

Today’s Chanakya, another polling agency, will release their exit poll predictions for Delhi on 6 Feb 2025 at 7 pm. They made the announcement on their official Twitter handle.

According to the Election Commission of India, in the following time period, there would be ban on exit polls.
