The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections began on Saturday, with several top AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, trailing in the initial rounds.
As per Election Commission of India (ECI) trends at 11 AM, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was trailing by 225 votes against BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh. Incumbent Chief Minister Atishi was behind by 1,635 votes in Kalkaji, while Saurabh Bharadwaj lagged by 4,440 votes. However, among those leading for AAP were former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai, who held early leads in Jangpura, Greater Kailash and Babarpur seats, respectively.
The latest ECI data shows that BJP is leading in 41 seats, while AAP is ahead in 29. The final outcome will determine whether AAP secures a fourth term or if BJP reclaims power in Delhi after 27 years.
The single-phase elections were conducted on Wednesday, with 60.54% voter turnout. A total of 94.51 lakh votes were cast across 70 constituencies, covering 58 general seats and 12 reserved seats. Voting took place at 13,766 polling stations, with 50.42 lakh men and 44.08 lakh women exercising their franchise.
