A Delhi court is set to announce its decision on the bail plea of Engineer Rashid, a Lok Sabha MP from Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, in an alleged terror funding case on November 19.
The hearing presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, was initially scheduled for Monday but has been adjourned. Rashid, also known as Sheikh Abdul Rashid, has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with a 2017 terror funding case.
Earlier, on September 10, the judge granted Rashid interim bail to facilitate his campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. This interim bail was later extended until October 28 due to concerns regarding his father’s health. The NIA did not oppose the extension after verifying relevant documents.
The elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly were conducted in three phases from September 18 to October 1, with results announced on October 8. The National Conference-Congress alliance emerged victorious, securing a majority with 48 seats.
