Delhi’s outgoing Chief Minister and AAP candidate Atishi, who secured victory in the Kalkaji constituency against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes, has resigned. Atishi has submitted her resignation to L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas in Civil Lines.

As the votes for the Delhi Assembly elections were counted on Saturday, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heading toward victory, AAP leader Atishi acknowledged the outcome as a “setback” but reaffirmed the party’s commitment to opposing the BJP.

“First and foremost, I thank the people of Delhi and our dedicated party workers who stood firm. We accept the mandate. The fight against BJP’s dictatorship and hooliganism will continue. This is a setback, but AAP’s struggle for the people of Delhi and the country will persist,” Atishi told reporters.

Expressing gratitude to her supporters, she added, “I am grateful to those who placed their trust in me. I also appreciate my team, which overcame challenges to convey our message to the public. Though I have won my seat, this is not a moment for celebration—it is a time to continue the fight.”

Asserting that AAP has always stood against injustice and will continue to do so, Atishi said, “Yes, this may be one step back, but AAP will keep fighting.”

Meanwhile, the BJP is poised to make a comeback in Delhi after more than 26 years, delivering a sweeping defeat to AAP in the national capital. This victory marks another significant expansion of the party’s saffron footprint across the country.
