Delhi CGO Complex fire: A sub-inspector with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was killed when a massive fire broke out in Pandit Deendayal Antyodaya Bhawan at CGO Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday.  The fire which started on the fifth floor of the building quickly spread to other floors.

Sub-inspector MP Godara fell unconscious after inhaling toxic gases. He was taken to AIIMS, where he died, Delhi Fire Services officials said.

At least 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the blaze. The fire has now been doused and cooling operations are currently underway.

Offices of the drinking water and sanitation ministry, forest ministry and a branch of the Indian Air Force are located in the Pandit Deendayal Antyodaya Bhawan, previously known as Paryavaran Bhawan.

‘Important documents destroyed’

According to an official, 80 per cent of the entire B1 wing has been gutted and several files and documents have been destroyed.

“However, at this moment, it cannot be said that how much has been the damage but surely several files and documents may have been destroyed in the fire. We are not allowed to enter inside as it is sealed. An assessment can only be done once we go inside and check,” the official said.

Last month, seventeen people were killed and several others were injured in a massive fire that broke out at a hotel in Delhi. The tragic incident took place at Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh area of the national capital.
