In a recent post on social media platform X, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Arvind Kejriwal, highlighting the ongoing issue of the Yamuna river’s pollution. Gandhi, in his tweet, wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal ji, now 2025 has arrived. When will you take a dip in the Yamuna? Delhi is waiting!”

The statement is a reference to Kejriwal’s long-standing promise to clean the Yamuna, a major river in Delhi that has been plagued by pollution for years. Despite multiple assurances from the AAP-led government to reduce the pollution levels and rejuvenate the river, progress has been slow, with the condition of the Yamuna remaining a significant environmental concern for the city.

The timing of Rahul Gandhi’s remark comes after Kejriwal’s ambitious promises during his political campaigns, where he vowed to restore the river to its pristine state. However, critics argue that despite these repeated claims, the pollution levels in the Yamuna have only worsened over the years.

JP Nadda criticised Kejriwal over Yamuna issue

JP Nadda has strongly criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of creating divisions between states and misleading the public on water quality issues. Referring to Kejriwal’s claim that Haryana is contaminating Delhi’s water supply, Nadda called it an attempt to incite conflict and labeled it as “anti-national.” He urged voters to politically “retire” Kejriwal and his party on February 5. Additionally, he accused Kejriwal of an ₹8,000 crore scam related to cleaning the Yamuna, asserting that pollution and foam in the river remain unchanged despite promises of improvement.

The 70-seat Delhi Assembly will hold elections on February 5, with the vote count scheduled for February 8.
