A 17 year old girl allegedly died by suicide in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar due to study pressure. She took this step after she could not clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to take admission in top engineering colleges of the country, as per the police’s statement on Saturday.
Further, a she also left a suicide note that asked her parents to forgive her for not being eligible to crack JEE.
“Yesterday at 11:25 AM, the PS Jamia Nagar received a PCR call about a 17-year-old girl who jumped from the roof of a seventh-floor building in Okhla main market. She had recently completed her 12th grade and was preparing for the JEE. A suicide note was found, mentioning study pressure and unmet expectations as reasons for her actions. Investigations under 194 BNSS are currently ongoing,” stated the Delhi Police.
The incident occurred just three days after a second-year Master’s student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi reportedly died by suicide late Tuesday night. Police indicated that the student, who was from Jharkhand, had visited the IIT hospital earlier that day and had been receiving psychiatric treatment.
A senior police officer confirmed that a call about the incident was received at 11 PM on Tuesday. The mobile crime team inspected the hostel room but did not find a suicide note. “According to the victim’s medical records, he was undergoing psychiatric care and had been at the IIT hospital that morning,” the officer noted, adding that the student had scheduled an appointment with his psychiatrist for October 29.
