A day after her husband’s death in Agra, a woman army officer allegedly died by suicide at the guesthouse of Garuda Sharath Officers’ Mess in Delhi Cantonment.
The woman, identified as Renu Tanwar, Military Nursing Service (MNS) Captain, was found dead in one of the rooms in the guest house. A suicide note was recovered from the room, said the police, Indian Express reported.
A crime scene team and forensic experts have been summoned to conduct inspection at the guesthouse and collect evidence.
The suicide note found in the guest house mentioned her will to be “cremated together, hand-in-hand” with her husband Deendayal Deep. Delhi Police said the suicide likely occurred on the intervening night of October 14 and 15, India Today reported.
The police said that Tanwar’s husband, Flight Lieutenant Deendayal Deep, posted at the Agra Military Hospital, had also reportedly died by suicide in Agra on Monday. However, no suicide note was found from him.
ACP Tiwari also told The Indian Express that a postmortem revealed asphyxiation led to Flight Lieutenant Deendayal Deep’s death.
Deep was cremated on Wednesday morning. He was a resident of the Morara village in Bihar Sharif of Nalanda district.
Captain Tanwar had arrived at the officers’ guesthouse in Delhi on the evening of October 14 along with her brother and mother, said Surendra Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West, IE reported.
“We suspect that there were some personal issues between the couple for the last one year forcing the officer (Deep) to take the extreme step,” Mayank Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Lohamandi, Agra, said.
