Cyclone Montha Live Tracking: The depression over the Bay of Bengal is gaining strength and is expected to turn into a severe cyclonic storm, named Cyclone Montha, by October 28, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The storm is expected to make landfall near Kakinada on the Andhra Pradesh coast by Tuesday evening or night, bringing heavy rainfall across several eastern states.
While Andhra Pradesh will be impacted the most, Odisha and Bihar are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, strong winds, and, in some cases, flooding in low-lying areas. The IMD has issued an orange alert for several coastal districts of Odisha, expecting intense downpours and rough sea conditions. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to go into the sea until further notice.
Some districts of West Bengal will also receive heavy rainfall from October 28 to 31, the IMD said on Sunday.
Bihar, meanwhile, is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall from Tuesday onwards. The weather office has warned that the rain may trigger flash floods in parts of southern and central Bihar, especially in districts like Gaya, Aurangabad, and Nawada. Farmers have been asked to take precautionary measures to protect crops.
