A case has been filed against local Congress leader Deepak Singh for allegedly referring to Union Minister Smriti Irani as a “Pakistani.” Superintendent of Police, Ilamaran, stated on Thursday that the case has been registered upon the complaint of BJP leader Keshav Singh, under the jurisdiction of Gauriganj police station, regarding the former’s objectionable and derogatory remarks about a BJP MP.

The remarks by the Congress leader were made during a two-day dharna against the suspension of the license of Amethi-based Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, which concluded on Wednesday evening with a candle march.

According to party sources, a decision will be made regarding the resumption of the dharna outside the chief medical officer’s office after the Allahabad High Court’s ruling on the plea against the license suspension on October 3. However, hospital employees and doctors continued their protest on Thursday against the license suspension.

Sanjay Gandhi Employees Union president Sanjay Singh expressed faith in the judiciary but emphasized the importance of the employees and doctors’ dharna continuing until the hospital resumes functioning. He highlighted the issues faced by the people of Amethi and neighboring districts due to the hospital’s closure.

The UP Health Department suspended the license of Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Amethi on September 17, in relation to the death of a 22-year-old woman amid allegations of medical negligence. The woman had been admitted to the hospital for a minor operation, but her health deteriorated on September 14, leading to her transfer to a private hospital, where she passed away on September 16.

The husband of the woman alleged that her death was caused by an overdose of anaesthesia at the Amethi hospital.
