Violent clashes erupted Thursday night at the Dehradun railway station as members of two communities confronted each other over an interfaith relationship involving a young couple from Badaun, reports The Indian Express.
According to officials, tensions escalated when community members gathered at the station after learning the couple was present. The situation quickly turned chaotic, resulting in stone pelting and vandalism of parked trains.
Local police were dispatched to the scene immediately. Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh arrived to manage the unrest and heavy police presence was deployed around the station and nearby Rita Mandi. Police later conducted foot patrols in the area to restore order.
“As per what we know so far, a minor girl from Badaun came to Dehradun to meet someone. There is already a missing person’s report registered in Badaun,” Singh said. He added that the police informed the Government Railway Police about the girl’s location and provided her details.
The SSP urged the agitated crowd to disperse. He said that the situation was under control.
Senior police officials confirmed that they would register cases against those involved and initiate a thorough investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible for the violence.
