A month after the Pune Porsche car crash, another high-profile hit-and-run case has come to light in Chennai, involving the daughter of a Rajya Sabha MP. The accused allegedly ran her BMW over a youth sleeping on a pavement on Monday night. The woman has now been granted bail in the case.

According to several media reports, the accused has been identified as Madhuri, daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao. Madhuri was accompanied by a female friend when she allegedly drove over a youth in his early 20s sleeping on the pavement in Chennai’s Besant Nagar in an inebriated state, as per the reports.

Following the incident, the two women fled the scene immediately, police said.

The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing police have filed a case under section 304 A of the IPC (causing death by negligence), a bailable offence, and have issued summons to the car owner. Police investigation, including CCTV footage, revealed that the car belonged to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group and was registered in Puducherry.

Madhuri was arrested but later granted bail at the police station. Rao, a Rajya Sabha MP since 2022, has also served as an MLA.
