Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore was transferred to the position of DGP at the Tamil Nadu Police Training College, just three days after the murder of the state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K Armstrong by armed assailants.
Sandeep Rai Rathore will be replaced by senior IPS officer A Arun, who is currently the additional director general of Police (ADGP), Law and Order.
The murder, which took place on Friday, triggered a political firestorm in the state and drew sharp reactions from BSP. Armstrong, 52, was killed by a six-member bike-borne gang near his residence on Friday.

BSP supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati paid homage to her murdered party colleague. She also demanded a CBI probe into the killing to ensure justice for the family of the deceased.
Armstrong was laid to rest on Monday in neighbouring Tiruvallur district. Earlier, the Madras High Court had rejected the family’s plea to bury the body at the party office in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin expressed “shock and anguish” over Armstrong’s murder. “The police have arrested those involved in his murder in an overnight operation,” Stalin said in a post on X.
He said that he has ordered the police to conduct the investigation expeditiously and ensure that the culprits are punished according to law.
Eleven men have been arrested for the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party’s Tamil Nadu chief in Chennai.
