In the Chanpatia assembly constituency of West Champaran, Jan Suraj Party candidate and popular YouTuber Tripurari Kumar Tiwari, also known as Manish Kashyap, is currently trailing in the race for victory. Despite initial speculation that he could turn the contest into a triangular battle, the ninth round of counting shows him in third place with a total of 13,827 votes.

BJP’s Umakant Singh Maintains Lead, Congress Close Behind

BJP candidate Umakant Singh continues to lead the race, securing 33,621 votes by the ninth round, maintaining a margin of 1,735 votes over Congress candidate Abhishek Ranjan, who has received 31,886 votes. A total of five candidates are contesting in Chanpatia this election.

Manish Kashyap had previously been a member of the BJP before joining the Jan Suraj Party. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Umakant Singh of BJP had won the Chanpatia seat by defeating Congress candidate Abhishek Ranjan with a margin of 13,469 votes. The voter turnout in that election was 63.82%, with BJP securing 47.69% of the votes.

This year’s contest has attracted significant attention, given the presence of a social media influencer in the fray. Voters and political observers are closely monitoring the counting process as trends continue to fluctuate.
