By-election results highlights: It was good day for BJP and its allies as they won 26 of the 51 Assembly bypolls across the country, While the Congress won in 12 constituencies. the day also saw AIMIM winning their maiden seat in Bihar.
RJD had some thing to smile today, with the party winnning in 2 of the 5 constituencies that went to polls today. While JD(U), AIMIM and an independent candidte won 1 seat each.
While Lok Jan Shakti Party ‘s Prince raj defeated his nearest rival Ashok Kumar of the Congress in Samastipur, NCP’s Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil defeated Udyanraje Pratapsinhmaharaj Bhonsle in Maharashtra’s Satara constituency.
In Uttar Pradesh 11 constituencies went to bypolls, out of which BJP won 7, while its NDA ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) won 1 seat. Samajwadi Party went on two win 3 seats from the state.
By-elections were also held on six assembly seats in Gujarat, two each in Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and four in Assam. Similarly, four seats in Punjab, three in Sikkim, five in Kerala, two in Rajasthan and one seat each in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Telangana and Puducherry also voted to elect their new representatives to the respective assemblies.
The bypoll on 11 seats of Uttar Pradesh was being seen as a crucial test for the Yogi Adityanath government which has completed 30 months in office. While the BJP was looking to to consolidate its position in the state assembly winning maximum number of seats, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress made the elections a four-cornered contest.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday hailed the Congress victory in the assembly bypolls and termed the SAD defeat in Jalalabad as the rejection of their "negative agenda". "The Akalis clearly failed to learn a lesson from their previous electoral defeats and continued to engage in negative campaigning, including the politicisation of religion," Amarinder Singh said, adding that their defeat in Sukhbir Badal's "self-proclaimed stronghold" of Jalalabad was a "total rejection of their negative agenda".
The Congress is leading in Jhabua bypoll in Madhya Pradesh. At the moment he is leading against BJP's Bhanu Bhuriya by 27, 804 votes.
Aanand Shukla of BJP has defeated Samajwadi party candidate Nirbhay Singh Patel from Manikpur Assembly seat by a margin of 12,840 votes.
Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Rajkumar Sahyogi has defeated Abhay Kumar of the BSP by a margin of 25,937 votes on Iglas seat in Aligarh district.
In Govindnagar, BJP candidate Surendra Maithani defeated Karishma Thakur of Congress by a margin of 21,224 votes.
Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Zafar Alam has defeated Janata Dal-United candidate Arun Kumar from Simri Bakhtiarpur by a margin of over 15,000 votes.
Rajkumar Pal of Apna Dal (Sonelal) has defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Brijesh Verma by over 29,000 votes. Apna Dal (S) is an ally of the BJP in the state.
The ruling Congress has won three seats and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) one seat in Punjab where assembly bypolls were held on four seats.
