A building collapsed in the Gonikoppa area of Karnataka’s Kodagu District on Thursday. Authorities arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident, which was captured by nearby CCTV cameras.

Rescue operations are currently underway, with nine individuals already pulled from the debris of the Ambur Biriyani hotel. Among those rescued are the hotel owner, Tirumurugan, his wife Alamelu, their son Narayana, and a worker named Malinga. A patron named Madhu, who sustained a leg fracture, has been admitted to Gonikoppa hospital, while another individual with a head injury has been transferred to a hospital in Mysuru, as per the media reports.

The owner of the hotel stated that as the building began to collapse, most people managed to escape, and those trapped were subsequently rescued. However, locals suspect that two more people may still be under the debris, so rescue operations will continue.

To facilitate the ongoing rescue efforts, Gonikoppa-Mysuru road has been temporarily closed. Further details will be provided as they become available.
