Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s son, Kartikey Chouhan, hit back at senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh after he offered political advice following Kartikey’s viral speech at a rally in Budhni.
While speaking at the rally, Kartikey warned voters that the region would face severe consequences if the BJP did not secure a victory in the upcoming bypoll.
In response, Singh took to X, advising Kartikey to learn from his father’s experience and to refrain from making such comments.
On Friday, Kartikey responded, saying, “I respect Digvijaya Singh. He is a senior leader and has served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh twice. I am really proud that he closely follows me and my remarks. He (Digvijaya) only engages in fear-mongering.” He added, “I want to tell him that the people of Budhni are afraid of the Congress rule, which destroyed the state. We wanted to learn from him, but he (Digvijaya Singh) did not do anything worthwhile when he was Chief Minister (from 1993 to 2003).”
The bypoll in Budhni became necessary after Shivraj Singh Chouhan resigned from his MLA position following his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Chouhan, who is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has since been appointed as the Agriculture Minister in the Narendra Modi government.
Notably, Kartikey’s name had been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Budhni bypoll before the BJP opted for former MP Ramakant Bhargava, who will contest against Congress candidate Ramkumar Patel. The bypoll is scheduled for November 13, with results expected to be announced on November 23
