BRS leader K Kavitha walked out of Tihar Jail late Tuesday evening, following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant her bail in connection with corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

Kavitha, who was arrested in March, addressed the media upon her release, stating, “Entire country knows I was put in jail for political reasons. I have done nothing wrong. We will fight and prove ourselves innocent,” PTI reported.

Supporters and BRS workers gathered outside Tihar Jail to welcome Kavitha, celebrating with drums and fireworks. Her brother, K T Rama Rao, BRS working president, was also present.

Kavitha, 46, has been released from Tihar Jail, where she had been held for nearly five months. The Enforcement Directorate initially arrested her at her Hyderabad residence in Banjara Hills on March 15, and the CBI followed with her arrest at Tihar Jail on April 11.

On Tuesday, an apex court bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan granted her bail, noting that she had been in custody for about five months and that the investigations by both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate were complete.
