NTA announces CUET 2024 dates for UG, PG
Professor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has announced that the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate Programs (CUET-UG) for the academic year 2024-25 that will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Staff shortage at DGCA delays issuance of pilot licences
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is taking at least a couple of months to issue licences to trained pilots as the regulator is grappling with the shortage of staff at key positions, according to sources. After training, individuals need to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) to be eligible to fly commercial flights. Sources in the civil aviation ministry said that at present, a pilot has to wait for a couple of months to get his or her licence and the pendency time is likely to go up in the coming months. (PTI)
Teen jumps in front of metro train at Noida station, hospitalised
A teenager on Tuesday was severely injured after she allegedly jumped on the track in front of a metro train at the Noida City Centre station, in a suspected case of attempt to suicide, police said. The incident took place around 10 am on platform number two of the metro station when the girl jumped in front of the Delhi-bound metro train on the Blue Line corridor of the rail network, they said. British PM Rishi Sunak speaks on new India-Canada rift
Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the UK will not pre-empt any probe into the alleged killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. ‘International rule of law should be respected,’ Sunak further said. He also said that the ongoing talks between the UK and India regarding the Free Trade Agreement will continue.
Putin-Xi meeting
Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Beijing in October for talks with China’s Xi Jinping, Interfax cited Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of Russia’s Security Council, as saying on Tuesday. “In October, we look forward to thorough bilateral talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing,” Patrushev said at a meeting in Moscow with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi. In Beijing, Putin will take part in a forum on China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Patrushev said. (Reuters)
Gujarat floods update
The National Disaster Response Force rescued people stranded in different locations after heavy rainfall lashed Gujarat. According to the NDRF, in Aakha village of Junagadh district, the NDRF team reached the spot at 6:50 PM and started rescue operations. The team safely rescued a senior citizen and 4 other villagers from different locations. The NDRF teams on Monday rescued as many as 157 people, stranded in low-lying areas in Gujarat’s Aravalli district following heavy rainfall in the region. (ANI)
Russia-Ukraine war update
Ukraine’s air defence systems destroyed 27 out of 30 drones and one Iskander ballistic missile that Russia launched on Ukraine’s territory in early hours on Tuesday, Ukraine’s air force said on the messaging platform Telegram. The Iranian-made Shahed drones were destroyed in Ukraine’s southern, central and western regions, while the missile was launched in the direction of Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine, it said. (Reuters)

Indian stock exchanges to remain shut for Ganesh Chaturthi
The Indian stock exchange market is closed today on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and will resume from tomorrow. On Monday, Indian stock indices closed in the red, with the benchmarks largely witnessing profit booking. The market will next be closed on October 2 on account of Gandhi Jayanti.
Canada expels Indian diplomat as it probes possible link to Sikh’s slaying. India rejects allegation
Canada expelled a top Indian diplomat as it investigates what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called credible allegations its government may have had links to the assassination in Canada of a Sikh activist, an accusation that India rejected as “absurd” Trudeau said in Parliament on Monday that Canadian intelligence agencies have been looking into the allegations after Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a strong supporter of an independent Sikh homeland known as Khalistan, was gunned down on June 18 outside a Sikh cultural center in Surrey, British Columbia.
