A bomb threat that prompted a thorough search at Jammu’s main Republic Day venue was later found to be a hoax.
The threat, received via email late Saturday, led to the deployment of multiple bomb disposal teams at M A Stadium, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was scheduled to unfurl the national flag and oversee the Republic Day celebrations. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also set to attend the event as the chief guest.
The email, sent from the username “Dise Lish,” was directed to the official accounts of several government departments, including the Secretary of Higher Education and the Director of Higher Education. As a result, the stadium was searched overnight in the presence of senior police officers, but nothing suspicious was found.
A special team has been formed to track down and arrest those responsible for sending the hoax email.
