Mumbai Police, after a two-day intense manhunt, arrested Mihir Shah, the main accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case on Tuesday. The police were on an intense two-day manhunt and were able to track down Shah only when his friend inadvertently turned on his mobile phone for a mere 15 minutes, leading authorities to their location.
Mihir had been evading authorities and was on the run since Sunday morning after the accident. He was arrested in Virar, near Mumbai. The luxury BMW he was driving allegedly crashed into a two-wheeler in Worli, south-central Mumbai, killing Kaveri Nakhwa, aged 45, and injuring her husband, Pradeep.
According to the police, Mihir fled the scene in an auto-rickshaw, leaving his car and driver behind, and headed to his girlfriend’s place in Goregaon. It was his sister who took them both from there to her home in Borivali.
The Shah family then decided to hide out at a resort in Shahapur, Thane district. Mihir, his mom Meena, sisters Kinjal and Pooja, and two friends stayed at the resort. Mumbai Police tracked one of the friends’ numbers but hit a dead end when the phone was switched off.
Mihir and his friend left the resort on Monday evening and reached Virar. When his friend turned on his mobile phone, the police traced the signal and intercepted them.
Prior to the accident, Mihir was partying at a bar in Juhu post which he left with his driver early in the morning. He was last seen in the Marine Drive area around 4:30 am. Shortly after, the BMW hit the two-wheeler in Worli, resulting in the fatal accident.
