The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday issued a defamation notice to senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi, demanding a public apology for her claims of being threatened to join the saffron party.

On Tuesday, Atishi alleged that four senior AAP leaders, including herself, would imminently face arrest if she did not join the BJP.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva stated that a defamation notice has been dispatched to Atishi, insisting on a public apology for her accusation.

“Atishi failed to provide evidence of who approached her, how and when. The AAP is undergoing a crisis in Delhi, which is why they are making such baseless allegations out of frustration. But we will not let her get away with this,” he said.

Additionally, Sachdeva urged Atishi to submit her phone to an investigative agency to substantiate her claims.

The BJP’s legal representative stated that a defamation notice had been sent to Atishi, demanding the retraction of her statement, which was deemed “false, defamatory, and fabricated” and allegedly made with malicious intent.

It was further emphasised that if Atishi failed to substantiate her claims, the BJP would pursue further legal action against her.
