After facing a loss in the Assembly elections, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik resigned as the Chief Minister of Odisha on Wednesday. He met Governor Raghubar Das at Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar today and handed over his resignation letter to him at the Raj Bhavan.
The BJP had lost the Assembly elections bagging just 51 out of the total 147 seats in the state.
Though a number of BJD leaders had gathered at Patnaik’s residence, he came alone to the governor’s house to tender his resignation. The BJD supremo only waved at waiting journalists and left the premises after submitting his resignation letter.
The BJP emerged victorious in Odisha, securing 78 out of 147 assembly seats, while the BJD managed to win only 51 seats. The Congress secured 14 constituencies, CPI (M) secured one, and three Independent candidates also emerged victorious in the elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.
