A woman from Bihar has alleged that she gang-raped in a moving ambulance while being transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The woman was en route to hospital after she fainted during a government recruitment drive for home guard.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was immediately formed, and a forensic unit was dispatched to gather evidence. The driver and technician were arrested within hours of the FIR being filed.

Sexual assault in the ambulance

The alleged sexual assault took place on July 24 after she fell unconscious and collapsed during a Home Guard recruitment exercise at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya. According to police, the woman fainted while undertaking a physical endurance test, part of the standard procedure for recruitment.

The organiser of the recruitment exercise promptly arranged an ambulance for her. As per the police complaint, the woman stated that she was partially conscious of the events in the ambulance after she fainted. The woman later informed the authorities and hospital staff that three to four men inside the ambulance raped her.

Chirag Paswan on rape incident

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan has reacted to the whole incident and criticised the law and order situation in Bihar. He also raised question on the functioning of state police. “The incident is deplorable. The guilty may have been caught, but the administration is obviously unable to prevent such crimes. The situation is scary, and I regret that I am supporting a regime that is incapable of controlling law and order,” he told PTI.

Tejashwi Yadav on the incident

Leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, shared on X a news clipping of the incident with the hashtag “vote out of power the Nitish Kumar government to protect the girl child (Nitish sarkar Hatao beti bachao).The RJD leader also alleged that Bihar was under the “rule of demons (rakshas raj)” and accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and “his two so-called deputies” of a “criminal silence” on such incidents.
