Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar on November 13 to lay the foundation stone for AIIMS Darbhanga, announced state Health Minister Mangal Pandey on Sunday.

Pandey informed the media that Modi will attend the ‘bhumi pujan’ (groundbreaking ceremony) for the super-specialty hospital in Darbhanga, alongside other prominent figures, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union ministers Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi.

The establishment of AIIMS in Darbhanga will make it the second location in Bihar, after Patna, to host an All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

“The project, which involves a cost of Rs 1,700 crore, will be of immense benefit to north Bihar and adjoining areas. AIIMS, Darbhanga is a proof that the NDA, which rules the Centre as well as the state, works for the development of all areas and cares for the most needy sections of society,” Pandey added, PTI reported.

In September, the Bihar government transferred over 37 acres of land in Darbhanga to the Union Health Ministry, bringing the total land allocation for AIIMS Darbhanga to 187.44 acres.

The Union Health Ministry approved the project on July 25 after a proposal from the Bihar government three years prior.
