Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: Political strategist-turned-leader Prashant Kishor released the first list of 51 candidates from his Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025 on Thursday. Among the notable names is Priti Kinnar, a transgender candidate who will contest from the Bhorey (Reserved) constituency in Gopalganj district. Priti will likely face Sunil Kumar, the sitting MLA and Bihar’s Education Minister from Janata Dal (United).
Bihar Election 2025: Who is Priti Kinnar?
Priti, 41, hails from Sitamarhi district and has been living in Bhore for several years. She has been active in social work since 2008, working on various community issues across Bihar. The party believes her deep connection with local people will help her raise grassroots concerns effectively in the Assembly, according to local media reports.
Priti’s contest is expected to make Bhorey one of the most closely watched seats this election. Though transgender candidates have been contesting polls in India for years, very few have managed to win.
Earlier this year, a transgender independent candidate in Delhi received only 85 votes, showing how difficult political representation remains for the community.
Bihar Election 2025: Who else made it to the list?
The Jan Suraaj Party’s list includes candidates from diverse backgrounds. According to party president Udai Singh, out of the 51 candidates, 11 are from backward classes, 17 from extremely backward classes, nine from minority communities and the rest from the general category.
The list features several well-known names, including Bhojpuri singer Ritesh Ranjan Pandey (Kargahar), former IPS officer RK Mishra (Darbhanga) and Jagriti Thakur (Morwa), granddaughter of late socialist leader Karpoori Thakur.
Other prominent figures are former Patna University and Nalanda Open University Vice-Chancellor KC Sinha (Kumhrar), known for his popular mathematics books.
The party has also fielded professionals from various backgrounds such as doctors Amit Kumar Das (Muzaffarpur), Shashi Shekhar Sinha (Gopalganj) and Lal Babu Prasad (Dhaka). Among other notable candidates are Lata Singh, daughter of former Union minister RCP Singh (Asthawa), lawyer and party leader YV Giri (Manjhi) and Priti Kinnar, a transgender candidate from Bhorey constituency in Gopalganj.
The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases, on November 6 and November 11, with the vote counting scheduled for November 14.
