Bihar Election 2025: The Election Commission of India (ECI), earlier this week, announced the dates of polls in Bihar. The voting in the state will take place in two phases on Nov 6 and 11, while the results will be declared on Nov 14. With ground nearly set, the next big task for the political parties is to finalise the seat-sharing. Bihar is most likely to see the contest between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and opposition’s Mahagathbandhan i.e INDIA bloc.
Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has already said they would contest alone, and AIMIM as well as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – they are also left to fight the elections alone. But as mentioned above, the NDA and INDIA blocs hold the cards to the elections as the seat-sharing can be utilised by others to signal some sort of rift within the alliances.
The huddles are ongoing in Delhi and Bihar’s capital city – Patna. Winning Bihar elections is a matter of prestige for the BJP-led NDA and a concern for its future for the opposition.
NDA counters Tejashwi’s ‘govt job’ promise
RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday promised that if they win, their government will enact a law to ensure that every household in Bihar has a government job. Reacting to this, Bihar Minister Ashok Choudhary on said it was an “election bubble”.
Choudhary stressed the awareness among the people of Bihar regarding the functioning of the Nitish Kumar government, noting that the promise is an attempt by Tejashwi Yadav to create a “sensation” among people.
“This is just an election bubble. What matters is how people in the state feel about RJD leaders and what they want. This is an election stunt. The people of the state are aware that Nitish Kumar runs a stable government and manages it effectively. Tejashwi Yadav is merely trying to create a sensation by promising jobs. I don’t think the public will accept this,” he told ANI.
EC on identifying of burqa-clad women
The ECI has said that Anganwadi workers will help verify the identity of burqa-clad voters at polling stations across Bihar. It said the step is being taken to ensure “dignified” identification of women voters in burqa or purdah.
In a statement, the poll authority said to encourage participation of ‘purdanasheen’ (in burqa or purdah) women, “special arrangements” will be made at the polling stations as per its instructions for their “dignified identification” in the presence of lady polling officers or attendants while ensuring their privacy.

Bihar election 2025 live updates: Lalu Prasad files nomination – But not the one we all know
Among those who filed their nomination papers on the first day of the Bihar Assembly elections was a familiar name — Lalu Prasad Yadav. But this wasn’t the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief; it was his lesser-known namesake from Saran district, who has built a quirky reputation as a serial election contestant.
The 45-year-old Lalu Prasad Yadav, an agriculturist from Jado Rahimpur village in Saran, filed his papers on Friday from the Marhaura Assembly constituency — part of the Saran Lok Sabha seat long associated with the original Lalu, who began his parliamentary career there in 1977.
Despite his enthusiasm for politics, this Lalu admits his campaigns are more driven by fascination than strategy. He struggles to recall where he last contested. “I think in the Lok Sabha I was a candidate from Maharajganj. In the Assembly bypolls, I contested either Tarari or Rupauli,” he told PTI.
Bihar election 2025 live updates: Only 2 people submit nominations on Day 1
On the first day of filing of nominations, only two persons, neither associated with a recognized party, turned up to submit papers, PTI reported.
Filing of nomination papers began in poll-bound Bihar on Friday when the RJD went on to inflict a blow on the ruling NDA by weaning away at least three prominent figures of the BJP-led coalition.
Smaller partners in the INDIA bloc, however, seemed to be running out of patience as the CPI(M) announced that it will ask both its sitting MLAs to file nomination papers next week while awaiting a consensus on another nine that it wanted to fight.
Till now, only Jan Suraaj Party of former political strategist Prashant Kishor and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party has made public some of its candidates.
Bihar election 2025 live updates: ‘Sushashan’ vs ‘Jungle Raj’ in Bihar
Every election in Bihar brings with it a new dynamic with the same parties, mostly the similar faces and the usual issues – development, liquor ban, women empowerment, poverty and education among others. The journey of Bihar is something that all the political parties narrate, but with their own convenience. Hence the narrative – jungle raj vs sushashan.
The ruling BJP-led NDA alliance under CM Nitish Kumar boasts about their sushashan (rule of law), comparing it with the ‘jungle raj’ of Lalu Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi. But is this really the case? Has Bihar, a state that lived under decades of lawlessness, is now enjoying sushasan? READ MORE
