Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 Date: A three-cornered battle is awaiting Bihar this election season with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) eyeing return to power, and RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan hoping for a change in the power dynamics of the state. On the other hand, supporting none of them, Prashan Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party is campaigning heavily against the NDA and INDIA bloc.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is assessing the preparations for the Bihar elections, and would announce the dates of the polling sometime in the first week of October. A government has to be in place in Bihar before November 22, which means the EC will have to wrap up the entire process by mid-November. Furthermore, EC is likely to decide the days in a manner it does not impact the Diwali and Chhath festivals, Bihar’s biggest festive celebration.
Bihar SIR
The focus at present is on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Bihar electoral rolls. The ECI began exercise in June 2025, setting the deadline of September 30 for the publishing of the final roll. The exercise met with opposition and petitions were filed in the Supreme Court. The court has held several rounds of hearings passing some key orders. The final arguments will be heard on October 7 when the SC will most likely pass order on the legality of the SIR.
Earlier, the EC published the list of 65 lakh deleted names, on the order of the top court, to allow voters to file objections, if any. The final draft is likely to have 7.3 crore voters, a reduction from 7.8 crore in Jan 2025, a report said. Around 14 lakh new names would be added in the list, of which, 10 lakh could be the first time voters.
Amit Shah in Bihar
There has been no announcement on seat-sharing and hence the candidates’ list is also not clear and the parties are huddling to decide the same. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Bihar for a two-day visit on Sept 26-27. During the visit, he attended a high-level strategy meeting at the BJP state office in Patna, which included Bihar BJP leaders, state secretaries, and organisational members from other states assigned to oversee the election campaign. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, recently appointed BJP election in-charge for Bihar, was also present, reported ANI, quoting a party source.
The senior BJP leader held talks on seat sharing as the NDA coalition will be fighting the Bihar assembly polls together. RJD and Congress have also not announced any progress on seat sharing, however, several leaders of Congress have hinted at backing RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav as the CM face for Bihar.
Priyanka Gandhi’s Bihar rally
On Friday, Congress general secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed a public meeting in Bihar’s Motihari. She called her brother Rahul Gandhi a “real patriot”, stating that he travelled a distance of “4,000 kilometers on foot” to listen to common people and understand their problems.
Vadra who had briefly joined her sibling for “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar last month, made the remark at Motihari while addressing her first solo rally in the state.
“I am not saying this because he is my brother. But Rahul Gandhi is a real patriot. Only a real patriot can cover 4,0000 kilometers on foot, just to listen to the people of his country and learn from them what issues they felt strongly about,” the Wayanad MP said.
In a veiled attack at PM Narendra Modi launching Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana disbursing Rs 7,500 crore among 75 lakh women of Bihar, she said, “For years, they have been in power. Why did they not think of these doles earlier? Even now, they are not guaranteeing that the beneficiaries will get Rs 10,000 every month. Mothers and sisters must teach them a lesson in the upcoming elections”.
“Our women can be quite smart and make the best of every situation. So, I suggest you all to take all the money from the government, which has, for now, opened up its coffers. But, in the day of polls, vote for those who really think of improving your lives and not remember you only at the time of elections,” the Congress MP added.
