Bengaluru, the tech city of India, is facing a severe water shortage. The underground water is running out, and there’s a drought in the Cauvery basin, making things worse. The water crisis in Bengaluru city has reached such severity that residents are being compelled to use toilets in malls. Residents of Bengaluru have flooded social media with posts expressing frustration, fear, and concerns, as the Karnataka capital contends with a severe water crisis.
To tackle the issue, the Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board has banned the usage of drinking water for car washing, gardening, construction, water fountains, road construction, and maintenance. A fine of Rs 5000 is imposed for violations of this order.

The city’s borewells, which get water from the ground, are also drying up, and people are talking about their problems online. Amid the chaos, a Reddit post, now deleted, highlighting the adverse situation in Bengaluru is circulating on the internet.
The Reddit user stated, “Most of the tenants have vacated while others have moved to temporary accommodation. You get to smell the stink of unflushed human excreta in toilet bowls from far away. It’s not uncommon to see a line of residents going to the nearby Forum mall to do their business.”
‘Never buy a flat in Bangalore which is dependent on tanker water forever. it’s better to live in a rented home with peace of mind rather than suffer like this” a portion of the post read.

In many areas of the city, you can see long lines of people waiting for water at municipal tanks or depending on costly water tankers. This uncertainty about having enough water is making residents really worried.
People are sharing their thoughts and feelings on social media. Let’s take a look at some of their reactions:
“Summer has barely begun and there is already water scarcity in Bengaluru. Forget about free buses or free power,” a user said on X.
Some online users are worried about the future sustainability of their city’s development if the water crisis persists. One person commented, “The water shortage in Bengaluru is only going to get worse. That’s why I prefer to own two small flats – one in a big city and another in a smaller city.”
Another user on platform X proposed, “Considering water shortage in Bengaluru, Companies should declare work from home for 3/6 months so that several people leave the city. This will also help in crashing the real estate market in the city! Which is exactly why, it won’t happen & PPL will continue suffering!”
