The District Administration of Patna has ordered the closure of 76 government schools in rural areas till August 31. This decision was made because the Ganga River has crossed the danger mark in Patna. The decision was taken with the safety of students and teachers in mind.
A circular issued by the District Magistrate on Tuesday stated, “A total of 76 government schools in eight blocks of Patna district will remain closed until August 31 due to the rising water level in the Ganga River…”
In a recent decision by the Bihar government, District Magistrates (DMs) now have the authority to close schools in their districts during emergencies such as floods. The order to close the schools came after a government school teacher fell into the Ganga near Patna and was carried away by strong currents.

Heavy rainfall continues to disrupt the state continuously for the fourth day, making normal life miserable and flooding low-lying areas. Citizens from flood-prone areas have also been relocated to safer places as water levels in dams and rivers have risen because of heavy downpours.
