Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Dilip Pandey accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday . These allegations surfaced after a Delhi court sent Kejriwal to judicial custody until July 12 in connection with the excise policy case.
Addressing a press conference, Pandey stated, “Even angels who speak the truth in this era are killed. Everyone is witnessing the misuse of agencies like ED and CBI by the BJP. The decision in the Hemant Soren case has already criticized the ED’s actions. By filing baseless, fake cases, efforts are being made to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail. AAP’s legal team is fighting this case.”
Pandey also criticised the BJP over recent structural failures at public infrastructure projects, including the collapse of a canopy at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1, which resulted in one death and several injuries. He questioned the quality of these projects and linked them to broader issues of public safety and corruption.
The Rouse Avenue Court’s decision came after Vacation Judge Sunena Sharma found that Kejriwal had not cooperated with the investigation during his police custody. According to CBI, Kejriwal provided evasive responses regarding the enhancement of profit margins for wholesalers under the new Excise Policy of Delhi 2021-22. The agency also highlighted his failure to explain why the revised Excise Policy was hastily approved during the peak of the second wave of COVID-19.
Additionally, CBI accused Kejriwal of evading questions about meetings between his associate Vijay Nair and stakeholders in the liquor business, where illegal gratifications were allegedly demanded. The agency further claimed that Rs 44.54 crore of illicit funds were used by AAP in the Goa Assembly Elections during 2021-22.
In response to these developments, the Delhi High Court recently stayed Kejriwal’s bail order, emphasizing that the trial court should have ensured the fulfillment of conditions under section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) before granting bail.
As AAP’s legal battle continues, the accusations of agency misuse and the judicial decisions surrounding Kejriwal’s case remain central to the political discourse in Delhi.
