Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2024: The Election Commission of India announced the date for Assembly Elections 2024 on Saturday, March 16 and Arunachal Pradesh is set to cast votes on April 19, 2024. The voting will be done in a single phase.
The votes will be counted on June 4, 2024 and the results will be announced on the same day.
The 60-member assembly is currently under the governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party with Pema Khandu as the Chief Minister.
The BJP currently dominates the Arunachal Pradesh State Assembly with a majority of 41 seats across 11 constituencies. The remaining seats are held by the Janata Dal (United), the National People’s Party (NPP), the Congress, and the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA).
During the State Assembly Elections in 2019, the state underwent a polling process only for 57 seats as three BJP candidates were declared unopposed. However, the remainder of seats were distributed among other parties, with the Janata Dal (United) winning seven seats, the National People’s Party (NPP) securing five, the Congress party winning four, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) claiming one seat, and independents securing two seats.
In Arunachal Pradesh, a total of 7,94,162 voters, including 4,01,601 women, participated in the electoral process across 2,202 polling stations situated throughout the state. Notably, eleven polling stations were exclusively designated for women.
Furthermore, Arunachal Pradesh accommodated 3,000 physically challenged voters. The state took special care to address the needs of all voters, with 281 vulnerable polling booths and 662 critical polling stations, ensuring accessible arrangements for every eligible voter.
To guarantee a fair, free, and peaceful voting experience, stringent security measures were implemented across Arunachal Pradesh. Additional security personnel were deployed, especially in districts prone to insurgency such as Tirap, Changlang, and Longding.
