Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing the UP Assembly on Tuesday, claimed that a family with 130 boats earned Rs 30 crore in 45 days during the Mahakumbh. He criticised the Samajwadi Party (SP), stating that sailor families were not earning well under its rule. He also mentioned his visit to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh on February 27, highlighting the maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene, while felicitating cleaners and health workers.

The UP CM also responded to the SP’s accusations, particularly after Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey labeled him “communal.” Adityanath defended both his beliefs and his government, citing socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia, who emphasised the importance of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, and Lord Shiva as guiding ideals, which ensured the nation’s strength and unity.
He accused the current Samajwadi Party of straying from Lohia’s values, arguing that its actions undermined the nation’s religious foundation. “You play with India’s religious sentiments and then call our thinking communal. How is it communal?” Adityanath asked. “We believe in inclusive development for all. Our guiding principle is ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramaya’ (May all be happy, may all be free from illness).”
The Chief Minister also highlighted the recently concluded Maha Kumbh, a massive spiritual event that attracted attendees from over 100 countries, as evidence of India’s inclusive and religious harmony. He emphasised that the event was free from any caste, sect, or religious discrimination, and that participants were deeply moved by the experience.
