Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar on Saturday launched the “man blowing turha (a traditional trumpet)” symbol of his party in Raigad, two days after the Election Commission of India had allotted the symbol to his faction, named the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar.
The decision came days after the apex poll body recognised the Ajit Pawar-led camp as the real NCP.
Following the decision, in a post on the official account of Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar, said, “It is a matter of pride for the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharad Chandra Pawar that the same Tutari (Turha), which resonated through the history of Maharashtra with the valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has been allotted to us as our poll symbol. With the progressive ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the icons of Maharashtra, Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar, this Tutari is prepared to sound once again to challenge the throne of Delhi alongside Sharad Chandra Pawar Saheb!”
Also known as ‘tutari’ in Marathi, the trumpet traditionally heralds the arrival of significant individuals, from monarchs in the past to contemporary political leaders.
The Sharad Pawar faction referenced verses from the renowned poem ‘Tutari’ authored by Jnanpith awardee Kusumagraj.
