The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches on Sunday at multiple locations in Kolkata, including the homes and offices of former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital officials, as part of their probe into alleged financial irregularities.
The searches targeted Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Sanjay Vashisth, the ex-medical superintendent and vice principal, along with 13 others. CBI sleuths also visited the residences of suppliers involved in patient care management.
At least seven CBI officers questioned Ghosh at his residence in Beliaghata starting at 8 AM. The team arrived at his home around 6 a.m. but waited an hour and a half for him to open the door. Vashisth was interrogated about his knowledge of the financial discrepancies during his tenure.
The CBI also searched the hospital’s offices and canteen. They requested current principal Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay to be present during the searches.
The CBI’s investigation follows the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the hospital on August 9, which led to nationwide protests and prompted the Calcutta High Court to direct the agency to look into both the crime and financial irregularities.
