Bollywood actor Dharmendra and two others have been summoned by a Delhi court in connection with a cheating case related to the Garam Dharam Dhaba franchise, reports PTI.
The complaint, filed by Delhi-based businessman Sushil Kumar, alleges that he was deceived into investing in the franchise. Judicial Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal issued the order on December 5, saying that the evidence presented suggests a prima facie case of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
According to Kumar’s lawyer, DD Pandey, the case stems from a 2018 incident in which Kumar was approached by co-accused representatives on behalf of Dharmendra, also known as Dharam Singh Deol.
The complaint claims that Kumar was offered a franchise opportunity for a Garam Dharam Dhaba location on NH-24/NH-9 in Uttar Pradesh. In September 2018, Kumar handed over a cheque for Rs 17.70 lakh, but the accused stopped responding shortly afterward.
The court found sufficient evidence to support the charge of cheating and criminal conspiracy, and the accused have been directed to appear before the court on February 20.
The documents submitted in the case, including a letter of intent with the restaurant’s logo, indicate that the transaction involved the Garam Dharam Dhaba franchise and was pursued on behalf of Dharmendra.
