Aaradhya Bachchan, daughter of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has urged the Delhi High Court on Monday to issue a summary judgment in her 2023 lawsuit against the circulation of misleading information about her online.
The court briefly heard arguments from Bachchan’s counsel and issued notices to Google, Bollywood Time and other websites.
“Every child is entitled to be treated with honour and respect, be she the child of a celebrity or the child of a commoner. Dissemination of misleading information relating to a child, especially as regards her physical or mental wellbeing, is something which is completely intolerable in law. No technicalities can come in the way of the Court stepping in, where such attempts are brought to its notice,” Justice C Hari Shankar had observed, Bar and Bench reported.
Earlier, on April 20, 2023, the high court directed YouTube to remove fake videos claiming Aaradhya was seriously ill. The petition, filed through her father Abhishek Bachchan, sought to restrain various YouTube channels from spreading false reports, some of which even falsely claimed she had passed away.
The lawsuit highlighted that morphed images were used in these videos, violating Aaradhya’s right to privacy and the Bachchan family’s intellectual property rights. The court had granted an interim injunction, preventing the defendants from posting any material about her health.
The matter is set for next hearing on March 17.
