Healthtech startup for pediatric behavioural and developmental health Butterfly Learnings on Thursday announced Rs 32 crore (around $3.8 million) funding in its Series A round led by Insitor Impact Asia Fund II and Enzia Ventures. CIIE (IIMA Ventures), Foundation Botnar, 9 Unicorns, and Venture Catalysts also participated in the round.

Founded in 2021 by Sonam Kothari and Abhishek Sen, Butterfly Learnings provides individualized therapy regimens and comprehensive support for children and families facing challenges related to neurodiversity. The company has more than 250 in-house trained therapists and operates in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nasik.

The regimens are based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), consultations with pediatric neurologists or developmental paediatricians, and additional therapies such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, oral placement therapy, and sensory integration.

Speaking on the new round, Sonam Kothari, Co-Founder & CEO of Butterfly Learnings said the funding will propel its mission forward to expedite the delivery of accessible and evidence-based pediatric behavioral and developmental health solutions to families across India.

The startup had raised $2 million in its Seed funding round from Insitor Partners, 9 Unicorns, Venture Catalysts, Fondation Botnar, UTIL Stiftung, Enzia Ventures, and CIIE in 2022.

The latest round will be deployed to scale the company’s technology-enabled therapy programs to equip neuro-diverse children to integrate with society and manage their lives better.

Butterfly Learnings said it currently serves around 2,000 families across 30 centres in Maharashtra and plans to extend its reach across multiple states and cities in India through a 200-centre network.

Nicholas Lazos, Co-Founder and CIO at Insitor Impact Asia Fund II said nearly 3 million children in India have autism, while one in eight (aged between 2–9) experiences at least one neurodevelopmental disorder.

“Unfortunately, the small number of standalone clinics currently available to parents lack a rigorous scientific approach to therapy provision. Dr. Sonam and Dr. Abhishek have successfully leveraged their extensive clinical and technological expertise to offer an evidence-based, technology-enabled therapy solution for children. We enthusiastically support them in this next phase of growth,” said Lazos.
