Small and medium business (SMB) sellers on the e-commerce marketplace Amazon India, which has more than 16 lakh sellers, will be launching over 9,500 products during this year’s festive sale Great Indian Festival by the company. The month-long sale, coinciding with Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale, starting September 27 will have products from SMB sellers who are part of the company’s various seller programmes including Karigar, Saheli, Local Shops and Launchpad.
To equip sellers with the expected surge in customer demand during this year’s sale, Amazon had recently announced a significant reduction in selling fees across multiple product categories on the marketplace, effective from September 9.
Amazon said sellers on its marketplace in India will benefit from the drop in selling fees ranging from 3 per cent to 12 per cent across various product categories.
“It will give them an opportunity to optimize their operations in time for the Diwali shopping rush and set the stage for sustained success well beyond the festivities,” the company said.
Amit Nanda, Director, Selling Partner Services, Amazon India said, “Our goal is to make the festive season memorable for everyone and empower our sellers, through digital transformation to help them connect with customers across different parts of India.”
To further help the sellers prepare for the festive season, Amazon said it hosted a series of Seller Connect Events across different parts of India, and enabled them to engage with its leadership team, while covering different nuances of selling online on its marketplace.
Additionally, the company said it has rolled out the Amazon Seller Rewards 2024 program where sellers can win prizes (including cash prize and international trips) for their performance during the Great Indian Festival sale.
Flipkart, on the other hand, in May this year had announced a revised rate card for its sellers to improve their experience on the marketplace and enhance clarity on settlement. The company has also launched a dedicated B2B app Reset for Business for sellers offering refurbished products, beginning with refurbished smartphones and accessories.
Importantly, a recent report by market intelligence firm Datum Intelligence had noted that Flipkart is expected to have a 65 per cent share during this year’s online festive sale for the period September 27-November 3 in comparison to 61 per cent expected by Amazon followed by Meesho (51%), Myntra (41%), Nykaa (31%), Blinkit (29%), Swiggy Instamart (24%).
