Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday (September 11) announced that the newly inaugurated Akurli bridge on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway will alleviate a major traffic bottleneck, benefiting Mumbaikars by saving both time and fuel.

Time and fuel savings

The long-delayed project was fast-tracked due to the intervention of the Commerce and Industry Minister. Its completion provides major relief to countless citizens by addressing a critical traffic bottleneck on a key arterial road.

Goyal informed that the project will deliver significant benefits, including time and fuel savings for citizens. He attributed the timely completion—achieved within 30 days of his initial meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on August 14—to his frequent meetings with relevant stakeholders.

Goyal also directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and traffic police to expedite the widening of the Akurli underpass, aiming for completion by early October without causing additional traffic issues.

He further instructed to accelerate the Coastal Road extension to Bhayandar and enhance projects to resolve traffic bottlenecks with new flyovers, underpasses, and roads.

Goyal, who represents Mumbai (North) in the Lok Sabha, emphasized that the bridge’s completion will bring significant relief to thousands of Mumbaikars.
